Preprint bases

Preprint is a pre-publication, that is, a scientific article full draft that has not yet been published within a scientific journal. After the article initial submission to a scientific journal, the peer review process often takes weeks, months and even years. Need of a quick circulation of recent results among the scientific community in face of the global Coronavirus crisis has lead researchers to make their preprints available, since it is a means that makes Science move faster.

agriRxiv  is a source of free and open access to preprints in the agricultural sciences. It is hosted and managed by CABI, an international, intergovernmental and not-for-profit organization that improves the lives of people around the world, providing information and applying scientific expertise to solve problems in the agricultural and environmental. agriRxiv will moderate and then index all content to ensure that it is appropriate for its users and that it can be easily found and shared.

ArXiv is one of the most traditional preprint bases worldwide. Specialized in the exact sciences area, the database has almost 2 million preprint files. However, in spite of its expertise field, it is possible to find some recent documents on Coronavirus.

bioRxiv  is a free online archive and distribution service for preprints in the life sciences. It is operated by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a nonprofit educational and research institution. By publishing preprints on bioRxiv, authors can immediately make their findings available to the scientific community and receive feedback on draft manuscripts before they are submitted to journals.

The Emerging Research Information (EmeRI) is a joint development of the Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors (Abec), Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (Ibict) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) – Office in Brazil – for the dissemination of preprints sent to scientific journals, accelerating the dissemination of scientific research results.

Developed by EMBL-EBI, Europe PMC is an open science platform that allows access to a worldwide collection of life sciences publications and preprints from trusted sources around the world. It is a partner of PubMed Central and a repository of choice for many international science funders.

MedRxiv is a base that gathers preprints from the health area, including subjects such as COVID-19 and SARS-CoV-2. It presents content in English language and is freely accessible.

OFSPreprints is an open platform that collects pre-prints from other databases. It offers advantages such as sustainability that allows other groups to contribute and expand the platform.

SciELO Preprints Collection is part of SciELO, an international cooperation program aimed at developing open access scientific communication, covering all areas of knowledge. It operates as a collection of manuscripts not peer-reviewed in the SciELO Network of national and thematic journal collections. Preprints will be treated by the same services as journal articles, including indexing and preservation.
